Overview
Mochi is made by grinding glutinous rice into a paste and then shaping it. Traditionally, this process was done manually, but now electric machines are often used. Rice paste can be steamed, boiled or baked. The resulting mochi is consumed in its pure form or used as a base for many other desserts.
Composition:
- Glutinous rice (mochigome): It is the main ingredient that gives mochi its unique chewy texture.
- Water: Used in the cooking process.
- Starch (corn or potato starch): Often used to crumble mochi and prevent sticking.
